When recounting a traumatic experience yourself is too much to bear, can it be entrusted to another? Erdal est parti blends contemporary epic and reflection on the ability of theater to represent the world accurately.

The play was born of an encounter between Simon Roth and Erdal Karagoz, a Kurdish political refugee. To purge his anger, give himself strength and raise awareness, Erdal asked Simon to help him share his exile's journey across Europe with a French audience. Simon Roth, a documentary theatre-maker and himself the heir to a tragic European history, took up the challenge with his team of performers. Between Erdal's need to bear witness and the problems involved in representing his words, Simon Roth finds a fascinating field of questions and surprises.
