ÇA QUAND MÊME

Is creating, at its most fragile, still and always an act of resistance? Twenty years after its creation, Ça quand même reaffirms, with urgency and poetry, the need to be there.

Written and performed in 2004 by Maguy Marin and Denis Mariotte, Ça quand même emerges at a time of crisis, when the new compensation protocol for intermittent workers is having a lasting effect on the conditions for creation. On stage, two bodies, two voices, a common thought, lucid and worried, carried by a raw text, simple and vibrant, like the monologue of a two-headed conscience. Twenty years on, this duet is passed on to another generation as an act of vigilance, a refusal to give in to the injunction of efficiency, to organized precariousness, to the gradual erasure of the long time needed for any work. In a context where culture is more than ever under threat, Ça quand même acts as a reminder that the stage is a space for speaking, listening and resisting. Theater, dance, art - far from being refuges - are, still and always, places of struggle.
