Badke(remix)
In the Levant, dabké is passed down from generation to generation: foot stamping, jumps, circles then lines and shouting make up this traditional dance. Created twelve years ago, Badke is a contemporary version blending influences from the four corners of the globe. This remix, entrusted to Palestinian artists, showcases a life drive and dance as forms of resistance.
Badke(remix) revisits the piece created by Koen Augustijnen, Rosalba Torres and Hildegard De Vuyst, carried by ten performers around the world between 2013 and 2016 and in which we find the influences of ballets C de la B, hosted several times at the MC93 with choreographer Alain Platel. This piece is now in the hands of Palestinian artists, notably Amir Sabra and Ata Khatab, who are reappropriating and rewriting it in the urgency of war and occupation. Behind this cry of joy and the obvious pleasure of being on stage, there's a sense of belonging somewhere that the dancers of Badke(remix) can proudly show off to the rest of the world.
