Après son ombre

A woman. A forest. A chase. Sensing a man’s presence, she hides. Alone in the woods, she lets her thoughts flow. Motionless yet always on the move. Don’t let fear wear you down. Resist the threat, no matter the cost. Seek escape routes or succumb to violence.

This is the story of a paradoxical thriller. Of a motionless chase. How do you escape when you’re trapped? In *Après son ombre*, Pierre Marescaux takes Newton’s law—that a force is required to set a body in motion—and transforms it into dramatic material. Here, the threat becomes the tipping point.

In this one-woman show, a woman recounts the pursuit. Her narrative brings two landscapes into coexistence: reality, described in minute detail, and the mental territory into which she draws us, traversed by myths, silences, and archaic terrors. Her mind races when her body can no longer keep up.
Behind her, Pierre Martin Oriol’s videos reconstruct a fragmented, kaleidoscopic forest, as fascinating as it is oppressive. Little by little, the tension rises, fear takes hold, until it traps the audience in this race with no escape.
