1983

Associated artist with the CDN de Sartrouville, Margaux Eskenazi, in complicity with author Alice Carré, unfolds a powerful fresco of the years 1979-1984. A real economic, political and social turning point in our history, these years crystallized the euphoria of a committed youth, but also the disappointed hopes of a population in the aftermath of the Thirty Glorious.

Euphoria of free radio stations, historic strikes in car factories, the March for Equality and Against Racism, François Mitterrand's arrival in power, but also disillusionment and economic rigor, the rise to power of extreme right-wing ideologies. After lengthy research and meetings with key figures from the period, Margaux Eskenazi and Alice Carré plunge into the extraordinary proliferation of events.

Like Et le cœur fume encore presented at the Théâtre in 2023, 1983 continues to auscultate the past to better question our contemporary world. What narratives have we inherited? How can we bear witness to the opacity and oblivion of our heritages and struggles? With unbridled energy, eight actors play every role, of every age, gender and skin color. The power of an era is reborn in an intersectional ferment. At the heart of the intimate and the collective, the troupe joyfully questions the narratives we wish to write in the present, for our future.
