In 1932, forced to eat a grainy purée prepared by his wife, an obscure handyman from Bagnolet imagined the utensil that would make his fortune. The hand-cranked vegetable mill was born, and the Manufacture d'Emboutissage de Bagnolet, renamed Moulinex, became a global industrial empire. Sixty-nine years later, the group filed for bankruptcy - factories were bought out or dismantled, workers laid off - while the company's top executives left with golden parachutes.
