Tu ne pouvais pas être bien, tu étais dans la lumière
Maria and Paula live in the oldest house in the dormitory neighbourhood, alone amongst the knick-knacks that have been gathering dust on the same pieces of furniture for years. Sometimes, Maria forgets. Faces and names blur together; she is overwhelmed by emotion, so she stokes the fire again and boils some chicken for her dog Mimi, who never forgets to ask for it.
Paula, her granddaughter, is a teenager trying to overcome her insecurities and find her place in this house that isn’t her own. *You Couldn’t Be Well, You Were in the Light* is a play that explores our relationship with the body and femininity, love and fading memory. It also examines the upheaval in family roles: how can we continue to live together when illness transforms our relationships?
