Sommeil du fils is about a mother. It gives a mother a voice. In the midst of her old age, a fragment of her youth resurfaces, and past events come back to life. One in particular: the fire at the 5-7 dance hall in Saint-Laurent-du-Pont in 1970, in which 146 young people lost their lives. An event the mother did not experience first-hand. An event she relives in reverse. An event that also haunts her son. Having grown up in the 1980s and 1990s near this village, Saint-Laurent-du-Pont in Isère, the son recalls the silence that surrounded this disaster. A silence of a very particular nature. He remembers the memorial he used to visit as a child. He also remembers how this disaster had transformed the landscape, albeit discreetly. By the side of the old N-road, a grey gravel square, a memorial stone, a fragment of a turnstile – a relic of the fire – and forests of silver firs. Far from his mother, the son imagines the impossible dialogue between their mismatched youths.
