Based in the ruins of a seaside village in the mid-2020s, the young Compost Community is trying to find innovative solutions to save humanity. Four centuries later, the mermaid Ariel – half-woman, half-cod – sings and calls out to the humans of yesteryear. Like everyone else of her time, Ariel carries the DNA of an endangered or extinct animal species in order to preserve its genetic heritage. *Sirène* depicts an improbable future, inspired in particular by the writings of the philosopher and feminist Donna Haraway. This future is shaped by hybridisation and composting, and can give rise to love at first sight and metamorphoses of all kinds.
