We all carry with us a suitcase of the past, a bag of memories. Big ones, small ones, painful ones. They encumber us, they protect us. They accompany us. They are our companions in survival. Florent Mahoukou and Andréya Ouamba carry the very heavy bag of the wars that have ravaged their country, the Congo, in the deafening silence of nations.
So they dance to exorcise the past, to speak of memory and its wounds, of death so close to home. They dig into memories buried beneath tons of unavowable, unacknowledged images. They speak of the insolence of escaping the massacre, the indecency of survival. They dance the unspeakable, the vanity of words. And to say it is already to guard against it by giving it its place, to escape it a little... To empty one's bag..
