rien n'est su
Nothing Is Known is a solemn yet luminous story, imbued with the love between a mother and her daughter. What can one do when the world falls apart and life goes on? Sabine Garrigues explores the brutality of death, loss, and the reinvention of the self. The words, freed from capital letters and all punctuation, express the unbearable absence, but also the beauty of a world that encompasses emptiness and pain: “death nourishes life / before, I didn’t know it / now I know it.”
rien n’est su is Sabine Garrigues’s first book. Written over the years following the death of her daughter at the Bataclan in 2015, it gave rise to a radio play broadcast in 2022 on France Culture under the title: Night of War in Paris. The performance was led by the author and actress Audrey Bonnet, whom Le Tripode thanks for bringing this text to light.
