William, a near-professional gamer, discovers Random Access Memories. This new kind of video game, driven by Artificial Intelligence, is shaped by the player’s choices and desires. With every irreversible decision he makes, the gameplay reconfigures itself, confronting William with increasingly violent situations. William no longer goes out; he locks himself away in his room and in the virtual world of the game. Gradually, RAM seeps into every emotional and everyday aspect of the player’s life; digital spaces and real life become intertwined until disaster strikes.

Emmanuelle Destremau’s play explores our relationship with the virtual world through the medium of video games, and blurs the boundaries: it is impossible to disentangle the real from the virtual; the two merge and influence one another. Here, virtuality becomes the only possible reality.
