Poucet, pour les grands

Everyone knows the story of Tom Thumb. In this tale, everyone remembers the ogre’s house and his daughters, the ogresses, who end up having their throats slit in the middle of the night. Thumbelina, for Grown-Ups is inspired by this specific moment: Thumbelina’s encounter with these ogresses, and in particular with the youngest one, who doesn’t eat meat and spends her days reading books—a resilient ogress, in a way! Because she has read so much, the day she meets Poucet, she recognizes the story… and knows what will happen to her in the middle of the night… The play Poucet, for Grown-ups explores the possibility for everyone to escape their fate. It explores fathers “whom we don’t fully understand,” submissive or complicit mothers… and little girls who forge their own paths through these pitfalls, growing up and ultimately managing to spread their wings and fly away.
