Polices !
Slogans, brutal force, typefaces, poetic editing. From community policing in neighborhoods to riots in major cities around the world, from the peaceful demonstration by Algerians in Paris in October 1961 to drones flying over so-called “sensitive” areas, from the testimony of a candidate taking the entrance exam for the National Police to a police robot patrolling the streets of Dubai, POLICES! brings forth a constellation of voices. This long poem unflinchingly examines the ambiguity of our relationship with authority.
Sonia Chiambretto has made her mark on contemporary literature through both the formal originality of her writing and the power and commitment of her message. In her poetry, she weaves together multiple perspectives by blending creative writing, personal accounts, and archival documents to craft a raw yet musical language.
