Midi nous le dira

10 June 2017, in the morning. A suburb on the outskirts of Saint-Malo. The heat is stifling.

Najda Kermarrec, aged eighteen, is waiting. The ferry is approaching, but she is far less concerned about her upcoming A-levels than she is about the results from the Selection Committee for Young Football Talents: by midday, Najda will know whether she has been chosen to play in the next U20 Women’s World Cup, in 2018.

So Najda films herself on her mobile and makes a ‘My future self’ video, like the ones she’s seen on YouTube: she addresses her self ten years her senior – the Najda she’ll be in 2027. She also talks about her mother, her grandmother and her great-great-grandmother, their dreams and the sacrifices they made.

Surrounded by her virtual double and different generations of women, Najda bridges the ages, and the clock strikes twelve…
