At the age of fifteen, Demeter is raped by Zeus. Pregnant, she flees to earth, where she gives birth to Koré. Now a teenager, Koré goes camping with her friends. She is kidnapped and abused by her uncle Hades, who takes her to hell. Demeter, distraught, searches for her daughter for nine days and nights before learning the truth. History repeats itself. Rape and coercion. Women trapped in a destiny they reject. Demeter sinks into pain. Wheat is afflicted by the same disease. Zeus is forced to return Persephone to her mother. Persephone has taken a liking to the dead, whom she will care for a third of the year before joining her mother and the living the rest of the time.

The Two Goddesses is presented as a contemporary, theatrical and musical rewriting of the myth of Demeter and Persephone, bringing to light current issues in society. This mother-and-daughter duo stood up to the gods and found each other against all odds. Thus are the seasons born, they say.
