Le Théorème du pissenlit
Tao and Li-Na live in Village-au-Rocher. With their parents away working in the city, the two children live with the elders and have fun, left to their own devices and free to play as they please. On his 13th birthday, Tao has to leave the village for the City-of-the-Factory-that-Makes-the-World’s-Objects. Desperate, Li-Na sets off in her friend’s footsteps and, after a perilous journey, finds him, exhausted by factory work. To expose the illegal use of child labour, Li-Na stages the most whimsical of revolts, thereby demonstrating – much like the dandelion – everyone’s capacity to flourish in difficult circumstances.
Beyond the issue of illegal child labour – in this cinematic tale, which takes the form of a folk tale suitable for all ages – the film also explores the themes of friendship, intergenerational relationships, nature as a liberating playground, and imagination as a tool for defiance in the face of an authority that is unjust and destructive of fundamental freedoms.
Suitable for ages 9 and over.
