La Valise de Pantofelnik

A French visitor recognises, amongst the objects on display at the Shoah Memorial in Paris, the suitcase belonging to his father, a Jew who was deported to Auschwitz. This remnant of a painful past evokes all those mundane, silent and terrifying relics, locked away in museums, whose excessive sanctification Małgorzata Sikorska-Miszczuk disapproves of. Nevertheless, this suitcase serves as the starting point for a quest in which the main character finds himself confronted with history and memory. For the author, who rejects any notion of historical inevitability, the aim is to open the suitcase of the past to extract its secret, bring the truth to light and face it with clarity – the only way to find peace of mind and hope for better days…
