La nuit des temps (ou les vies possibles de J.-M. Cesari)

The public is invited to a screening of the documentary *La nuit des temps*, an investigative film about a solitary, childless film buff who passed away in the 1980s. Not much remains of him. A black-and-white family photo, faded by time, and a few mementos from his loved ones. Not enough to shed light on his mystery, but enough to fuel it. Was he gay? Did he die of AIDS? But nothing goes as planned, and the film doesn’t start. The projectionist steps forward to speak to us, recounting a memorable scene from the film. One thing leads to another, and before he knows it, he’s embarked on the perilous attempt to piece together, as best he can, this film that we will never see.
