La Neige est de plus en plus noire au Groënland

‘The Snow Is Growing Darker in Greenland’ by Yann Verburgh combines a scathing critique of predatory capitalism with an intimate ecological fable, in which Carole, an engineer specialising in household appliances, must deliberately shorten the lifespan of a washing machine to meet financial constraints, whilst her husband Sylvain supports his father as he nears the end of his life.

Oscillating between raw realism and poetic dreamlike imagery, the text denounces planned obsolescence and its human consequences (electronic waste, exploitation) by contrasting the logic of productivity with the vulnerability of the human body. Its polyphonic narrative structure interweaves individual quests and global issues with incisive, metaphorical language, capable of transforming a technical fact into a contemporary tragedy.
