La Chair et l'Idée

This book seeks to trace the unique journey of Sony Labou Tansi—as a writer, playwright, director, theater troupe leader, and thinker on theater—a journey marked by the clash and interplay of ideas and cultures between Africa, particularly the Congo, and the West, particularly France. It brings together two previously unpublished texts by Sony Labou Tansi, *La Troisième France* and *La Gueule de rechange*, as well as the author’s correspondence and writings on theater. It also includes testimonies and critical essays from the meetings organized at the Conservatoire national supérieur d’art dramatique (CNSAD) from September to November 2013, as well as texts by writers about Sony Labou Tansi.
