La Cavale

La Cavale is the monologue of a woman who imagines herself being pursued by a pack of men, wolves and dogs. She calls this pursuit "La Cavale"; ever since she was a little girl, this image of her running away from this horde has been running through her mind, paralyzing her. One night, she decides to confront it, to set off in search of this Cavale to understand it. By going back to her origins, she discovers that this flight she's evoking is not the specific fear of something concrete and external: it's a wider, deeper fear, the fear that's lodged in each of us, an inner heritage that's passed on to us neither by experience nor by education, but by the amalgam, without notion or language, of all the fears of those who came before us
