Kiselina

The family ritual of preparing kiselina returns every year. Every year, in a small town on the brink of collapse, the uncle, the mother, the son, and his wife gather in the grandmother’s kitchen to chop vegetables and pack them into jars.

Asja Krsmanović transforms this ritual into a hellish time loop in which each family member disappears in turn, in a dizzying, skillfully orchestrated exploration of loss in all its forms: the loss of a loved one, the loss of bearings, traditions, and memory—both individual and collective.
