Kintsugi

In Japanese culture, kintsugi is a method of repairing broken porcelain or ceramics by highlighting their joints with gold powder. From a more philosophical perspective, it is a way to honor what has wounded us, to move beyond the original wound and transform it into something new—in this case, a work of art. These fine golden grooves in the object thus become paths leading toward other possibilities: the path of forgiveness and perhaps, at the end of the road, a rebirth? 
This intimate drama thus tells the story of a family held back by a painful secret that is slow to heal. Two sisters, Grande-Grande and Petite-Grande, reunite at their parents’ home to give voice to this story. By discussing traumatic experiences, their struggles to survive, and all the detours these experiences have forced them to take, they attempt to bring about peace—to free their troubled souls from guilt and the silence that has held them captive.
