Invasion !
“B.– It’s become the perfect word… Sometimes there were misunderstandings…
D.– What do you mean, Abulkasem ! ? (annoyed) Ah, right, you mean Abulkasem ? No, it’s fine, no problem…
B.– Most of the time, we could work out the meaning from the context. That’s how it was back then… Words would change meaning, evolving all the time…”
“Abulkasem”: by projecting this simple word, steeped in mystery and humour, onto the stage and into the mouths of his actors, Jonas Hassen Khemiri creates confusion. A portmanteau word, a sound element, a very contemporary language – the author offers a playful take on a very modern habit: ideological channel-hopping, which strings together clichés and news images to create a maelstrom of oversimplifications, turning the first passer-by into a potential terrorist.
