Ghazal

Ghazal (Conversation with a Woman) brings together and creates tension between intimate writing, memories and theatrical writing, centred on the stories of Ebtesam, Lena and Afraa.

These three women are Syrian and live in France. The author, who is also an anthropologist, and her sister, a documentary filmmaker, met them in Picardy and in Paris. Three women bring their stories to the stage, creating a space for listening – from the perspective of sisterhood – centred on the theme of violence that uproots people, in this case war, and the various movements this gives rise to – revolt, social critique, the unmasking of dominant discourses, friendship and solidarity that shape the world.

The text is a weaving of these multiple voices, filtered through a subjective experience, which tell us of memory when it confronts History, to shift our perceptions between I, We and They
