Feuferouïte
Faut faire entendre
‘Feuferouïte (Faut faire entendre)’ by Julie Aminthe delves into the daily life of Lucie, a care assistant in a care home for the elderly, who is grappling with the erosion of her empathy, marked by a metaphorical scab and a dehumanising, routine-driven job. Blending poetry with raw realism, the writing fragments the narrative to reflect the shattering of lives within a geriatric care setting, whilst revealing the invisible forms of violence – such as loneliness and the absence of physical intimacy – inflicted upon both residents and carers. Driven by organic metaphors, ‘Feuferouïte’ combines social realism (precarious working conditions) with dreamlike imagery (repressed longing for tenderness), questioning the systemic violence directed towards ageing bodies.
