Enquête sur une évaporation avant oubli is the story of a young girl, L, who is about to take the plunge into adulthood, just as one takes the leap, just as one sheds one’s old skin to take on a new one. This play subverts the conventions of the coming-of-age narrative by tracing L’s journey as she loses her way in a society devoid of poetry, where she cannot find her place. L is impossible to pin down and constantly slips away, despite others’ attempts to make her conform to the norm. Far removed from the clichés of adolescence, this play is constructed through what is left unsaid. Language remains on the surface. On the surface, at least. The closer one gets to the truth, the more certainties dissolve. Like a mirage. An investigation into a disappearance before it is forgotten mirrors L, who tries in vain to find her place in a world without prospects.
