With Désirer tant, Charlotte Lagrange plunges the furrow of a writing style at the crossroads of the intimate and the political, unfolding a fresco over three generations of women, from the Second World War to the present day.
In one phone call, Véra learns of both the existence and the death of a grandmother who had always been hidden from her. When she arrives with her mother near the fir trees where they are to scatter the ashes, Véra is overcome by an unbearable nausea. The place connects her to the past. Ghosts appear and believe they recognize her as the deceased. The story of Olga, the woman she never knew, is replayed, from her discovery of sexuality at the outbreak of the Second World War to her reclusive death in this Alsatian village. Although this woman has been silenced, something has been passed down from generation to generation and resonates in Véra today.
The characters slide from the present to the past and vice versa, temporalities intertwining and responding to each other as if one era were the dream of another or its distant echo.

Désirer tant is a winner of Artcena's Aide à la Création (Fall 2018)
