Désaxé

From Fleury-Mérogis prison, a man is overcome by a thought: he is five years old; it is his birthday. The sweet scent of his native Algeria comes flooding back to him. But very quickly, the memory of his happy childhood gives way to other, darker ones: the rise of fundamentalism, his flight to France with his parents, his arrival at the Trois-mille housing estate in Aulnay-Sous-Bois, one of the most troubled neighbourhoods in Seine-Saint-Denis. Amidst a series of disappointments and disillusionments, and lacking any sense of direction, he descends into violence. Yet, although brought up to love others, he withdraws into himself and, under his parents’ helpless gaze, becomes embroiled in delinquency and then in radical Islam… He knows that nothing is inevitable. He could have chosen a different path. At the crossroads, he chose to give in to hatred.
