Choco Be

A contemporary tragedy in French Guiana. Social tensions intertwine with the characters’ diverse backgrounds – white, black, mixed-race or Asian. Each harbours their own dark secrets: illicit dealings, jealousy, a thirst for revenge – all set against the backdrop of the stifling forest, with the festival serving as an outlet for frustration. The depiction of this Guyanese landscape lies at the heart of the text, caught between heat and violence. There is no exoticism or folklore in this story, which is rich in characters who are complex, enigmatic and fascinating all at once.
