*Bien Lotis* is a ‘social’ comedy which, in the form of a live radio programme from the 1960s – or a television programme a few decades later – winds its way through forty years of history.

A couple take part in a sort of quiz show. They answer a journalist’s intrusive, offbeat questions and, without fully realising it, put on a show, revealing the utopian ideals and everyday life of the post-war era.

Built around commentary and flashbacks, the play paints a picture of an era and a social milieu populated by a diverse cast of endearing characters. From the tower blocks of the housing estates and their teeming life (neighbours, trade unionists, immigrants, solidarity and endless discussions) to the detached house in a housing estate with its neighbours and its solitude, from work to unemployment or self-employment, it is the impact of urbanisation on society that is revealed to us.

A tender, funny and scathing look at the situations, post-war utopias and disillusionments, the sharpness of which resonates strongly with the present day.
