Amicalement la Haine

Amicalement la Haine is the story of a gay man in his forties who was the victim of two hate attacks during a disastrous night in Copenhagen: acts of senseless and incomprehensible violence, involving punches, kicks and verbal abuse.

For the victim, the violence turns into self-hatred, guilt and shame. Men who love men sometimes hate them, because it’s easier that way… Hatred directed at love, at the other, at what is different, at the unknown.
The victim recounts the loss of his identity, then the long road to recovery and the discovery of a new self. The man picks himself up, struggles, but strikes only at himself as he confronts this face that is now forever changed. At first he turns on himself, then on the attacker, on the society that allowed hatred to flourish, and on those who did nothing to prevent it.
To survive, then to live: but the violence has changed you, changed your perception of the world, for better or for worse.
