Vienna, November 2, 1823.

An old man claims to be the murderer of Mozart, who died 32 years ago. The rumor grows and spreads throughout the city… But who exactly is Antonio Salieri? An accomplished Italian musician, he is the official composer of the imperial court. His encounter with the musical virtuoso turns his life upside down.

Faced with such genius, he becomes consumed by his pathological jealousy and awe. He makes it his mission to erase the famous Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart from history.

This play by Peter Shaffer, which recounts Mozart’s extraordinary destiny through the voice of his rival, inspired the cult film of the same name.
