Woyzeck ou la vocation

Add to my favorites

In 2001, Tünde Deak attended a performance of Woyzeck directed by Arpad Schilling at the MC93, which triggered her "vocation". Rereading the play today, she wonders what it was about the tragic story of this miserable twenty-year-old character who ends up killing the only person he loves, that so moved her to dedicate herself to theater. After questioning the tug-of-war of double-culture, Tünde Deak wants to explore the creative spaces it opens up: how the discovery of this Hungarian-language show was ultimately an opportunity to encounter another language, that of theater. Woyzeck ou la vocation will combine Büchner's fragments with an autobiographical investigation based on memories of the show, in search of what might have had such a profound effect on the spectator of the time and the playwright and director of today. At the heart of the question of vocation lies that of becoming oneself.
