Correspondance entre Hippolyte Benéteau, Poilu du Bois-le-Prêtre et sa famille (1914-1915)

Dramatised correspondence – Theatre and historical memory

A true story. A war. A love that endures.

August 1914. Hippolyte Benéteau, a farmer from the Marais Poitevin, is called up and leaves his farm to join the front. Left behind, his wife Marie is on her own to run the farm and look after their children. There is only one way for them to stay connected: the letters they write to one another day after day, despite the distance, the waiting and the anxieties of war.

On stage, the words come to life.

Isabelle Dupeux lends her voice to Marie, a courageous and sensitive woman striving to preserve the family home. Didier Luneau plays Hippolyte, a soldier-farmer who, from the front, confides in his letters about his daily life, his concerns and his love for his family. Julien Guibert appears as a historian, shedding light on the events and placing this correspondence within the context of the Great War.

The production combines a dramatised reading, projections of photographs and period documents, music and songs.

A production about love, family and passing on a legacy.

Beyond the fate of Hippolyte and Marie, Ta femme qui t’aime… pays tribute to all those whom the war separated, to the women who had to face family and farm responsibilities alone, and to the families who lived in a state of waiting and uncertainty.

This dramatised correspondence is also an invitation to reflect on the consequences of conflict.
