Reminiscencia

Memory and the body are at the heart of the work of artists from Chile's new generation, particularly that of Malicho Vaca Valenzuela. Reminiscencia plunges us into a fascinating virtual experience, somewhere between personal narrative and documentary.

Begun during the pandemic, created in 2021 and programmed for the Festival d'Avignon 2024, Reminiscencia traces back to bygone eras, Malicho Vaca Valenzuela's personal memories and collective memories. Using a computer that projects his research onto a large screen, he clicks on his home, on a map of Santiago, before digressing to his family, the city's emblematic landmarks, his inner conflicts or collective struggles for the right to water or housing. Assisted in the staging by Ébana Garín Coronel, who we saw again in Minga de una casa en ruinas, he looks to the past to understand who we are and, in so doing, draws a gentle emotional cartography that uses digital technology to lead a "revolution of tenderness".
