Random access memories
William, an almost professional gamer, discovers the Random Access Memories. This new kind of video game, driven by Artificial Intelligence, relies on the player's choices and desires. With each irreversible decision, the gameplay is reconfigured, plunging William into increasingly violent situations. Little by little, he isolates himself, locked away in his room and in the virtuality of the game. As the game interferes with his emotional and daily life, the boundaries between digital space and reality become blurred, culminating in catastrophe.
Emmanuelle Destremau's play examines the relationship with the virtual through the practice of video games: real and virtual merge and act on each other. The staging gives video a central role: the screen becomes the heart of the stage set-up, materializing this disconcerting game. The game's characters invade William's intimacy: his room, his head, his very being. But the game William plays is also the game of theater itself. As the RAM fiction spills over into his life, the game leaves the screen and the theater takes over. In this fascinating game of mirrors, video games and theater come together to create, each in its own way, an alternative reality.
