À propos d’Elly (About Elly)
On the shores of the Caspian Sea, a group of friends from Tehran spend the weekend with their children. Among them is Elly, the teacher of Sepideh's daughter, whom she has invited without really knowing her. The atmosphere is light and cheerful until Elly suddenly disappears. Worry turns to anxiety, then to suspicion, and lies and things left unsaid explode. Everyone is forced to reveal themselves, and the group's solidarity breaks down. Another Iran takes shape - more traditional, harsher, where the place of women is struggling to evolve. In such a rigid society, how far can compassion resist the weight of conformism?
Created in spring 2023, this adaptation of Asghar Farhadi's film brings together eleven actors from diverse backgrounds (Iraqi, Iranian, Belgian, Dutch, Afghan) for a performance without a director, true to tg STAN's collaborative approach. The set design, reduced to the essentials - a simple tarpaulin is enough to represent the raging sea - highlights the creative process. And an unsettling play of mirrors unfolds between this group of friends trying to remain united in the face of adversity, and the actors, from four different companies, embarked together on this theatrical adventure.
