BRETÉCHER, LES MECS, LES NANAS, LES FRUSTRÉS...

Cécile Garcia Fogel has devised a show based on Bretécher's texts, dialogues from his comics and interviews from INA, which is as irreverent as it is impertinent, and relies on smooth editing. Together with Valérie Dashwood, they form one hell of a duo, complicit and funny. You can tell they're enjoying playing these ridiculous yet endearing characters. Claire Bretécher, "bande-dessinateur", that was in the old days, when the masculine prevailed over the feminine. Bretécher preferred to laugh about it. Her pencil strokes were caustic and vicious, and she never shied away from poking fun at her contemporaries with a healthy sense of self-mockery. Independent to the end of her pencil, Claire Bretécher never claimed to belong to any feminist movement. But her drawings have contributed to the emancipation of women. So yes, Get out of my way guys! It's about time, isn't it?
