Martin Eden

Martin Eden, a down-and-out sailor, leads a harsh existence of travel, menial labor and barroom brawls. But his life is turned upside down when he meets Ruth Morse, a cultured young woman from California's upper middle class. He falls head over heels in love. To please her, and then out of a genuine desire to study, he discovers the world of words, thought, theater and poetry. He chose to become a writer. An intellectual and a poet, he looks at the world and its complexity. For this adaptation of Jack London's novel, Mélodie-Amy Wallet brings together on stage a duo of actors and a duo of musicians who take us on a journey through the novel. She imagines Martin as a modern-day Don Quixote, lost in his books, defying the worst monsters for the love of his Dulcinea. A divine, almost fanatical love that leads him to the most beautiful of ascents, as well as the most tragic of extinctions.
