Ma Foudre
A production supported by the Grand-Est region, Mafoudre explores the realms of erotomania through the story of Olive, who convinces herself that her osteopath is in love with her.
It’s rather the opposite of paranoia. Erotomania is a psychiatric disorder. It leads the erotomaniac to imagine not that they are being persecuted, but that they are loved by someone. To interpret all their reactions, whatever they may be – silence, denial, rejection… – as a manifestation of that person’s love. One might laugh at it, but Laura Mariani takes it seriously. With six performers on stage, she explores the various facets of this disorder: its emotional causes, its roots in family life, but also its consequences for the life of the erotomaniac and for the person who finds themselves pursued by their delusions. In this instance, Olive projects her amorous delusion onto Simon, and this ‘mad love’ is not… Intertwining plots
On stage, Ma foudre thus plays with ‘the blurring of the line between the reality of events and what is going on in Olive’s mind’. Following *The Day I Learnt the Sky Was Blue* , in which she addressed autism and intellectual disability, Laura Mariani continues her exploration of mental health issues and the question of normality through a production supported by Artcena and a show shortlisted for the Théâtre 13 Young Directors’ Award.
