Le système ribadier
To attend to his infidelities, M. Ribadier uses his hypnotizing skills. One look, one "I love you" and he puts his wife, Angèle, to sleep. But the unexpected arrival of M. Thommereux, Angèle's exiled lover, could well disrupt this well-oiled system. "I don't deceive his surveillance, I put him to sleep..." says Ribadier. This three-act comedy, written by Georges Feydeau in 1892, echoes the biggest media affair of 2024, which took place in Avignon. While Feydeau corrects men's morals by entertaining them, he never fails to castigate an era, so-called La Belle Époque, the better to pierce bourgeois muflery, manipulation and the perversion of men towards women. It's this denunciation that makes Feydeau so relevant today. By highlighting the absurdity of human behavior, while underlining the psychological underpinnings of the characters, we're on the borderline between situational comedy, vaudeville and the darker aspects of manipulation and infidelity. In this museum scenography, the boundary between reality and play becomes blurred, and the actors with their intense energy take their place.
