Le Rêve d’Elektra

Add to my favorites

Mediterranean shoreline. A man abandons his wrecked car and starts walking, walking. He goes nowhere. He passes from one landscape to another. Humans, animals, multiple presences. As he walks, Ismaël seems to reconnect with invisible worlds. Same sea, different shore. Athens. Nighttime. For several days, the city has been surrounded by fires. Elektra can't sleep. She goes to the Ciné Oasis, dreams of other adventures, walks endlessly. A stray dog accompanies her as she drifts - dingy hotel, police station, wasteland... We go back to our roots. Hypnotic wanderings in a derelict South. Clément Bondu opts for magical realism and myth, but the world he depicts - arid, darkened - bears a strong resemblance to our own. A consumed world, where the horizon is blocked, where landmarks are lacking, where you have to save your skin. But where there is still promise. Perhaps even, who knows, a way out.
