La petite Tuk

Add to my favorites

This adaptation of a little-known Andersen story—set in the present day and featuring a female protagonist—resonates as a social fairy tale brimming with humanity, in which a young girl forced to grow up too quickly struggles to help her family make ends meet.

Tuk’s mom can’t make ends meet despite her night job. With a bit of a rock-’n’-roll spirit, she pretends not to worry, humming, dancing, and having fun despite everything, pouring what little energy she has left into trying to keep a cheerful atmosphere at home. And it’s Tuk who shoulders all the responsibilities of the household. Inevitably exhausted, she often falls asleep on benches, in the street, or at school, and she dreams… Following *The Pied Piper* and *The Little Match Girl*, the Oh! Oui… theater company continues its work adapting traditional fairy tales. With their musical theater, full of originality and fantasy, Joachim Latarjet and Alexandra Fleischer hit the mark once again and brilliantly succeed—with humor and poetry—in addressing social issues at a level children can understand, trusting in their intelligence and their ability to grasp the world around them.
