All great stories, whether in film or theater, are built on conflict. With Peace in the World, Nicolas Barry envisions a triptych in which text, dance, and music transform the way we tell stories. Here, there is no clash or confrontation: the narrative is shaped by other forces—love, care, and transformation.

It all begins with one man’s declaration of love to another. A direct, powerful, uninhibited declaration, in the vein of the great love monologues of Juliet, Phaedra, or Isolde, brimming with lyricism—but here, opening it up to a new queer dramaturgy. 

Then, a group of friends descends into the underworld to bring back one of their own. In a magical ritual of song and dance, friendship becomes a force for action. Finally, drawing on a quote from Deleuze who, speaking of tyrants, says, “They need to make sadness reign,” Nicolas Barry creates a moment of political joy, made up of chanted and danced slogans, where moving bodies give ideas their strength and reality.

La Paix dans le Monde questions our era saturated with narratives of war and proposes other possible imaginaries. A vibrant, collective form of theater that seeks, through gesture, voice, and rhythm, the conditions for a sensory uprising.
