La Jalousie

A respectable civil servant returns home; he has just cheated on his wife and is searching for every possible excuse to explain why he’s late… That’s when he realizes that his wife hasn’t come home yet either! Caught in his own trap, he is then overwhelmed by a fit of uncontrollable jealousy, dragging him into a sudden, absurd, and obsessive delusion. 

This delightfully cruel play explores with panache—in the tradition of boulevard theater—the torments of self-esteem and the mechanisms of jealousy… Through finely crafted dialogue, burlesque paranoia, and jubilant plot twists, Guitry pokes fun at hypocrisy and bad faith, offering the audience a satire that is as funny as it is biting.
