Every-Body-Knows-What-Tomorrow-Brings-And-We-All-Know-What-Happened-Yesterday
In this solo, Mohamed Toukabri turns his choreographic gaze to the very interior of dance. The Belgian-Tunisian choreographer undertakes a sensitive crossing, playing with the virtuosity of bodies to free themselves from the hierarchies between hip-hop and contemporary dance cultures, shaping a poetic and militant space. Using the words of Tunisian artist Essia Jaïbi, Mohamed Toukabri uses gesture to explore notions of memory and transmission. He creates a liquid temporality in which bodies bearing intimate narratives converse with collective history, questioning the colonial influences of contemporary dance and working to deconstruct the canons of gender. A quest to transform bodies and views that transcends languages and borders.
