Club Amour

"In the first filmed versions of Café Müller, it's striking to see desires at work. Bodies seek each other out, guess at each other, fingers call out for touch. The life of the theater intersects with the life of the artists. The roles seem to be carved out of thick human relationships. This made me want to present the play in an evening where love, love, desire, desire, would be at the heart. I then thought of two plays in "my" repertoire that also touched on these issues. It's a trial: to give performers from Tanztheater Wuppertal, who haven't yet danced these pieces, the opportunity to confront the rough subtlety of Café Müller, the unrestrained radicality of Aatt enen tionon, and also present this duet from the piece herses (a slow introduction)with bodies entangled in absolute contact. The evening is set to be restless: Purcell meets PJ Harvey, the ageless costumes of Café Müller side the nudity of Aatt enen tionon,the three pieces set Tanztheater Wuppertal 2024 ablaze!"
