Chant de grève

Each season, as part of the Faraway Festival, you are invited to discover and experience contemporary writing through readings or staged readings. Stories from afar, plays featuring original dramaturgy, and authors attuned to the world’s upheavals.

For this new edition of the festival, the Haitian-American playwright Jean d’Amérique is being honored with his Chants de grève. In this play, a group of students goes on a hunger strike following the police killing of one of their classmates. Barricaded inside their university campus, they debate and grapple with the reality of their revolutionary ideals. This play paints a portrait of a wounded youth torn between personal stories and political struggle, brought to life by the students of the Classe de la Comédie.
